What happens when you speak
Lonzio uses cloud services to turn your audio into text. If you choose cleaned-up mode, your transcript is also sent for text processing. The result returns to the app. Local history does not mean offline processing: audio and text leave your device to provide these features.
Your history stays on your Mac
After processing, the app keeps your recording history, audio files, and transcripts locally on your Mac. Older recordings are automatically removed from the device as you continue recording. This is a rolling history, not a permanent archive. Text you copy into another app is then subject to that app’s storage and privacy settings.
Processing, without model training
Our processing providers do not use your audio or transcripts to train their models. Content retention depends on the processing method: real-time transcription is processed transiently, while stored or asynchronous transcription can retain files until they are deleted or its retention period expires. Text cleanup requests and responses are not retained by the cleanup service. We do not make a blanket claim that every processing method has zero retention.
Your progress is separate from your words
Usage statistics such as total word count, words per minute, and your day streak can be stored outside your device. These statistics are separate from the audio and text in your local history. Processing services may also keep operational metadata, such as request identifiers, duration, timing, and billing usage.
The website is a separate experience
The browser demo is separate from the Mac app and its local history. The live demo sends recordings for cloud transcription and, when selected, text cleanup. Audio and transcripts are not stored as a history on our server. The website asks for microphone permission before recording. Demo protection uses an anonymous session cookie, bot verification, and temporary counters associated with the session and a keyed hash of its IP address. These counters do not contain recordings or transcripts. Account features use separate session cookies to keep you signed in.
We use Cloudflare Turnstile to verify browsers in the background. It processes browser and network signals to help prevent abuse. See the Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Addendum for details.
What the credentials mean
SOC 2 Type II and ISO/IEC 27001 refer to credentials held across our processing providers. Coverage varies by provider. They are not certifications held by Lonzio, and they do not mean that Lonzio runs entirely on your device.
